Our native slate quarries produced far superior slate than imported ones. Sadly, very few of these slate quarries remain open today.
However we stock large quantities of both reclaimed Scotch and Welsh slates and are experts in fitting these.

Scotch slating
Scotch slating is a skill sadly being lost .. They are time consuming. Their random sizes mean a fair bit of preparation before they are laid in diminishing courses. Scotch slating is therefor labour intensive and more expensive.
Because of this property owners and contractors will opt for a cheaper uniformed sized foriegn import. These imports vary greatly in price and quality and much cheaper to use.
For this reason traditional scotch slating is becoming rare and the skill set needed in fitting these beautiful and robust slates is being lost .
